Every empire collapses. I've always wondered if they saw it coming before it happened or if it just happened. It seems so easy to see when we're living in it. Our life expectancy was the highest in the world in my lifetime. Now we're number 43. Our debt was less than $1 trillion before the tax cutters took office and now we have $1 trillion yearly deficits. The sad part of watching an empire collapse is that there's this odd period of finger-pointing which we're living through now. This too shall pass.
