Did you know that many published scientific papers are based on statistics that are flawed? That's how smart these guys are...just as fallible as everyone else.
That's what the scientific process is all about. Using quantifiable and repeatable results to build confidence in theories. Our own observations are subjective and flawed, and "scientific studies" by themselves only contribute data points which may or may not be reliable.

As for Bill Nye, he's a great showman and educator when it comes to grade school science. There's a great need for people like him, but when he started mixing political dogma into his message, he went above his pay grade and ceased to be a "science guy."
