There was a recent court decision in Quebec regarding an oil exploration company suing a small municipality for enacting a by law restricting further drilling. This lawsuit took almost 5 years to work its way through the courts , however the decision was favourable to the town. In addition the company was ordered to pay the towns legal costs within 30 days.
While this litigation involved an oil exploration company and not a mining company it is interesting to see some similarities to the GSLR situation.

The Judge in the Feb 28 decision stated In her 16-page ruling, Tremblay said contrary to what Gastem argued in court, the town council was not pressured into passing this bylaw by environmentalists or forceful residents."The town councillors did not act on a whim," she wrote.

Tremblay said a municipality has the right to protect its territory based on the precautionary principle.

The attached article is interesting as it mentions the town received crowd funding to assist in its legal costs and in light of the decision will now donate the money to others towns involved in similar battles.
It is further mentioned that 364 municipalities who have joined together to lobby the Provincial government on drilling concerns will meet with the province this month
