This is exactly what Trump is doing. putting in place good policy for both nations.

You are the reason a civic test should be required prior to voting.

Let's see. You said Trump "shot from the hip", his communication of "winning a trade war" was stupid, and Trump is "irresponsible". I agree with all of that in the way he handled this issue. It's maddening.

However, you also said, "the idea alone was stupid and it will be a disaster". This I do NOT agree with. Any trade war going on has been a continuing war against the US and our citizens. Trump did not fire the first shot. He just finally retaliated. China has been dumping steel all over the world. Other countries have already retaliated. Did you know Europe has instituted tariffs from 18-36% on Chinese steel companies and it can go as high as 72% against China for this issue? They just do it quietly and without inflaming passions like Trump does. So Trump is not the only one who is sick of getting abused in trade by the Chinese.

As for you thinking this will be a disaster, well, it has already been a disaster for the US. The fact that we let other countries impose steep duties, taxes, and tariffs on US companies, and we don't impose reciprocal levies on those countries is nothing more than an economic capitulation and draining of our wealth due to a lack of defending ourselves by our leaders.

Look. Let's make this very clear. Let's say you and I are trade partners and we barter to trade. We agree that you will give me a Koan Beer worth $100 in exchange for me giving you $100 worth of Mindmeld beer. So far so good. However, I have unilateral tariffs imposed, so I tax your bear at 50% coming into my country. You tax me nothing for the beer as it gets imported into your country. So you have to actually give me $150 worth of Koan beer for every $100 worth of Mindmeld beer I give you. I've screwed you over. I make an extra $50 on every net trade we do. This is what the US has been on the receiving end of for a very long time on a whole range of products and a whole bunch of countries. You and many economic pundits out there are very naive to think trade deficits don't matter. I put people who say that in the same category as people who say budget deficits don't matter. The twin deficits not only DO MATTER, they are also bankrupting this country and we have already reached the terminal stage.

Here's another example for you. Did you know Europe charges 10% import taxes on US cars imported in the EU, but we charge 2.5% taxes on import of European cars into the US? So we are losing 7.5% on net trade with the EU on that one product. This cannot continue. It is NOT a level playing field. I have no idea why you and all the other people out there think it is ok for the US to constantly subsidize everyone else, while the American people suffer for it. Trump is looking out for us and he's right to do so. I just wish he was better at marketing himself and less John Wayne about the whole process.
