I just asked. She said Lisinopril is the first line of defense that doctors prescribe when they initially detect high blood pressure. It's pretty safe compared to other medications for high BP, so that's why doctors will jump to that first, then see if they need to add on or try something different. (And that's if they don't first recommend lifestyle changes, or if they don't want to wait around for you to make said changes.)

It's pretty common for people over 60, she said.
