Buckwheat - Re :"is this 3m inventory mobile computer cpus? "

This number came in a report from Ashok Kumar of SouthCoast/Lowenstein.

He claimed that half were notebook chips - no details on packaging, voltage etc.

He also claimed that Japanese customers canceled orders which was the cause of the inventory "problem".

Yet today, the large Japanese notebook vendors - NEC and Toshiba - were on center stage announcing their new 266 MHz Pentium MMX notebooks today:

Re: "How big was the mobile computer market last year?"

IDC has estimated the notebook market to be about 27% of the overall PC market - particularly strong in the commercial/business segment. If so, that would account for about 21,600,000 Intel CPUs in 1997 (27% of 80,000,000).
