After market close, MOTOROLA INC reported 4Q EPS of $0.53 after
charges vs $0.39 after charges on revenues of $8.2 mln vs $7.6 mln
last year. Analysts' mean estimates were $0.68, according to First
Call. 4Q excluding charges, net income was $393 million, or $0.65,
up from $357 million, or $0.59, in the year-ago period. The
company said the Asian economic crisis slowed the growth of sales,
orders and profits in the 4Q, and put pressure on prices. For FY
97 the company reported EPS of $1.94 after charges vs $1.90 after
charges last year. Excluding special charges in both years, 1997
earnings were $1.38 billion, or $2.26 per share, compared with
$1.24 billion, or $2.05 per share in 1996. (Reuters 06:17 PM ET
