I also agree that Trump runs by the seat of his pants. It infuriates me. It's like he makes decisions based on the last person he talked to. And once he's decided, he acts alone, instead of pulling his team together to create a comprehensive plan. In this case, I believe Trump is making the right decision, but his execution is poor and his marketing is poorer. He's not explaining why the US needs this to the American people. If he did explain, I think most Americans are smart enough to see why it is so unfair that other countries tax the shit out of our imports and we keep our import taxes into the US very low for them. It's a no brainer to push for reciprocity in our trade deals. We run a $800 Billion per year trade deficit. We can close that with full reciprocity trade deals and that would boost GDP by 4%! That's what people don't realize. GDP or Aggregate Demand has Net Exports as part of its calculation. If we want economic growth, then we need to close our twin deficits. Deficits absolutely DO MATTER. As for Cohn leaving, I've already given you my opinion on that. Cohn is Goldman Sachs. Wall Street has only one interest and that is asset stripping not only the United States, but asset stripping the rest of the world. Wall Street is run as a criminal enterprise. We saw that in spades during and after the financial crisis. Cohn is talking his book when he gives advice. Of course, he doesn't want trade wars. He wants the US and other nations to keep piling on the debt, because Wall Street makes money on debt issues, rehypothication, and defaults. They win coming and going in the world awash in debt. Cohn and Goldman Sachs are just charlatans that have enabled the destruction of the American Economy. The sooner American Citizens truly understand that the Fed, it's banking members, and Wall Street are nothing but parasites sucking the lifeblood out of the US economy, the sooner we can do something about it. They are the epicenter and chief root cause of why the rich/poor divide is accelerating. Cohn leaving? Good riddance and don't let the door hit you in the ass! Trump needs good people and he has not done a good job of hiring smart people who also have our citizens' best interests in mind. So I am actually happy to see many of these idiots including Bannon, Omerosa, and Cohn leave. So far, Trump is making good economic decisions despite these idiots, but not sure if it is he has good instincts or if he's getting good advice from somewhere. We'll see.
