Yes, a tariff is a tax that goes directly to the government. So Trump just gave us tax relief and is going to turn around and take some of it back.

But instead of the tax payer just giving the fed $, a tariff will be a hidden tax that will add to GDP and economic #s.

yes we were. but it wasn't because we were using tariffs. it was because we were spending a tiny fraction of what we do now.

1. Yes, we were spending a tiny fraction at that time because the Federal Reserve didn't exist

2. Tarriffs were the only source of revenue to the Federal Goverment because the people were free trade internally it was external trade that was Taxed by the Feds.

3. That is a way different system then what we have now.
