Koan, you are telling me things were better in 1970's America during stagflation than the 80's and 90's? In the 80's and 90's we had tax cuts, deregulation, and tides of conservatism washing over politics. Even Bill Clinton became more conservative after his initial liberal policies failed.

By the way, the social programs that you praise are the same social programs that is leading to higher and higher deficits. Even Obama left us with a "new normal" of $580B/year in deficits for non-recession years. Trump will leave us with an even bigger deficit, and so will his successor.

It's all due to Social Security and Medicare. Oh wait! The only party that opposes any changes to those programs are Democrats! You know, the party of socialists ...
