Germany is saddled with the VAT system and high import taxes in Europe, which makes everything expensive. Their gas is 4 times as expensive as ours due to their taxes. Here in the US, wind and solar are already cost competitive with fossil fuels. Natural gas, which is not really renewable but is plentiful, is cheaper than coal. The US is not only energy independent, we are energy dominant. I think we should use our fossil fuel dominance to plan for the future, since dominance never lasts. Luckily, we don't really need government subsidies anymore, because corporate america has already picked up the baton and are running with it.
