After church my Dad drove us a few miles west to Berkeley where Governor Ronald Reagan had deployed the National Guard with tanks over protests at a park. Laughable.

In spite of the tanks, young protesters continued to periodically throw flowers at the police, as they had the day before - which had led the police to shoot them with shotguns.

It left a deep impression of laughter on those who saw it.
