Some thoughts on MOT/SGS-Thomson announcement today, Their joint venture --- white Oak semiconductor is mentioned. A few weeks ago, KLAC announced a biggest single order ever in the company history is made from White Oak --- pure 19 machine for 200mm. Motorolla said the new joint developed fab will not be a Honda but an expensive race car. That's why they go for 300mm. (24+ machines if all KLA-Tencor's inspection systems installed.) KLAC offers superior product quality over competitors. I strongly believe that the new MOT/SGS-Thomson fab will favor KLAC products.
