from Smart Money Interactive - sub $1000 computer poll
NOW THAT sub-$1,000 computers have proved their
appeal, which company will dominate this new market?

When we asked our readers, a
clear favorite stood out: Compaq,
chosen by 51% of the 2,058
respondents. The only other
company to make it into double
digits was Dell, with 14% of the
total. Packard Bell, Compaq's
closest competitor for overall retail
market share, drew a mere 9% of
the votes.

But in the computer industry, the
pace of change can cloud any
crystal ball. After all, next year we
may be wondering who will dominate the sub-$500 market.

Steve

OFF TOPIC

As an infrequent poster, but frequent lurker, I appreciate your comments and input. Having read about your recent surgery and fondness for golf, I am suggesting a recovery gift for yourself. I came accross a small article in the NY Times magazine yesterday about a woman about to go on a golf vacation.

-22 days 14 countries 252 holes of golf
-Some stops along the way:
-Brazil, Tahiti, Dubai, Thailand, New Caledonia, Easter Island, India
-Concorde all the way
-Luxury hotels, private chef, doctor, three golf pros

Price- a mere $49,000.

ENJOY!!!

Sorry, they don't give phone # or address to get more info.

steve,

" I can assure you that the bto program is working and is way ahead of schedule."

I believe this is the key. Today, the market awarded DELL and punished CPQ because it does not have this assurance. I will feel much better if you can elaborate the basis upon which you made such assurance. thanks
