Andy, re: IOM and the Hard Drive Business

The reason that the hard drive companies haven't performed
is over production of too many players. Its a simple supply
and demand equation.

Granted some of the players are in a better technology phase than others but you could have shorted any of them and done well. None of the hard drive companies are doing well. Some time ago Seagate tried to consolidate the trade by buying Conner and it didn't work as soon as 10 months ago Fujitsu ( a new player ) started dumping drives on the market in a big way driving prices down.

It's for a lack of a category that IOM is put with the hard drives.
To assimilate IOM's business into the hard drive business is a mistake

Interesting. What do you think about the possibility that IOM will "take off" as more zip drives are sold with new computers? Also, what do you think about Clik!? I can't remember your post about WDC, but if you called it, that was pretty good foresight. I lost some money in that meltdown, but I had made so much money on the way up that it didn't bother me too much.

One other thing, is it logical to lump IOM with all the HDD makers? I know people do this alot, but it doesn't seem quite the same market to me.

Please comment. Thanks for your input.

Andy, peak detection is fine. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. You said...

For IOM, just look their JAZ, seems deeply in trouble. Jaz uses "peak detection" for reading and writing data while the industry has moved to PRML(digital technology). In order to compatible to JAZ, Jaz two Giga seems like to be "Peak detection" too. This old technology has no future and can not support high density recording.

What detection method is used has no bearing on the commercial
success of JAZ or any other data storage product. Once the data
rate/density objective is set, the design process concentrates
on assuring the manufacturer's error rate goal is met.
If the goal can be met with peak detection, implementation
may actually be a little cheaper. The manufacturer will select
an appropriate data detection method after considering
design targets. A poster on the SI Iomega thread has little
chance of improving on that design.

<<If the team leader is used to be a loosing team leader, the team would be higly likely a loosing team again. It is just so simple.>>

What does this mean in simple English? Also, if your a loser, not saying that you are, how could you be a leader??? Sounds like an oxymoron to me.

Zead

What kind of a team leader are you??
