Elmer,

Re: " I think you owe Yousef an admission of Intel's superior technology. After all, you were the one who set the rules."

To be as fair as possible to John ... he has until February 7th for
AMD to announce the shipment of 266mhz AND 300mhz K6 NOTEBOOK CPU's.
It will be very interesting to see how much integrity John has on that
date ... after all, he set the rules!!

Elmer, Yousef, re:Intel announcing 266 notebook before AMD.

Yes, Intel is still ahead of AMD but by how much? Expect an AMD 266 MHz notebook chip very shortly.

Bus Speed.........CPU / Freq............Winbench...CPU Mark 32
66 MHz............Intel MMX 233MHz...49.4............471
66 MHz............AMD K6-200 MHz.....50.0............526
75 MHz............Intel MMX 262MHz...53.3............528
75 MHz............AMD K6-225 MHz.....53.5............590

From the above benchmarks taken from tweakit.com, its pretty clear that, at the same bus speed, the K6 is at least one speed grade faster than the Pentium MMX, moreso for 32 bit code. Therefore, the AMD K6-233 at 66MHz bus X 3.5 will outperform the Tillamook-266 MHz at 66 MHz bus X 4.0.

Nevertheless, at this point in time, Joe Blow in the street doesn't know that the Compaq 233 MHz K6 notebook is faster than the 266 MHz Intel notebook, so I will concede that Intel is a few weeks ahead yet.
