<"It helps unify the CORBA message with Sun recommending a fully CORBA 2.0-compliant ORB," said Pat Kremer, director of partner marketing at Visigenic.> Edward, Sure, it's good news for proponents of CORBA. Rod Macpherson has gotten a lot of conversations started on the CORBA issue in this folder. I've been frustrated at how little press Visigenics puts out, although their customer list is impressive (Bell Atlantic, etc.). If Visigenics just isn't much for publicity, at least they're being noticed by the businesses they serve! I almost never talk about stock prices, but at the current share price of Borland, I'm almost thinking of moving my investment in an ISP to more shares of Borland. One of the things I am noticing in the telecom business is that we're moving from the investment in hardware to a more intensive marketing and utilization of that hardware - in other words, software is the engine that's going to drive all this stuff and will likely prove to be a better place to be in '98 and beyond - provided the software companies are the right ones, of course! On the hardware side, I'd focus more on the long distance carriers at the moment - especially LCI or QWST, although LCI's been a little weak of late - because of what I think are unwarranted fears that the rboc's are going to mop up the floor with them once they move into long distance. The move to long distance will be protracted and the local access providers will need to purchase their way into long distance. I am sorry to digress from Borland; I just think it becomes a better investment at this point. Regards, Dave
