I have read Peter Thiel's book. 0-1 companies are obviously very hard to come by, but, in my opinion, what makes them unique is their patent protection 1-N signifies a stock that now has competition from a number of fronts.

I don't agree that 0-1 is angel investing. But 0-1 investing initially carries inherent risks. Goog, Amazon, Facebook, and Netflix are still all 0-1 stocks in the sense that they face little competition. I don't consider Tesla a 0-1 stock as there are many car companies gearing up for that space. Besides, 0-! stocks tend not to be capital intensive and their gross margins reflect that.

My current favorite 0-1 stock that I mentioned here a few weeks ago is AMRS. It's value is in its unique technology, its patent protection, and its alliances with large companies with which they have marketing agreements. If you find the right 0-1 stock, you have found a company with great value not defined in traditional terms.
