If referring to sata3 ssd there are occasional deals to be had. Earlier this month I used a one time 20% off coupon on ebay and ended up with NIB Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SATA3 SSD for $250 from BestBuy store, free shipping plus sales tax... $250 all in. I was planning ahead a bit but seemed fair then. GPUs n RAM seem more overpriced now than SSD imo. But you are correct that pricing is high for builders overall.
