A Story: FTC nod seen on Intel's Chips & Tech buy - WSJ
Tuesday January 13, 3:58 am Eastern Time

NEW YORK, Jan 13 (Reuters) - The Federal Trade Commission is
expected to approve Intel Corp's (Nasdaq:INTC - news) $420
million acquisition of Chips & Technologies Inc
(Nasdaq:CHPS - news), a leading maker of graphics chips, the
Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

The newspaper, quoting lawyers familiar with the discussions
between the FTC and the companies, said the lawyers expected
the agency to allow the transaction to proceed. However, it
said, Intel would be put on notice that the agency could take
action later and will continue to investigate the industry.

The transaction had been delayed by the FTC review, which
lasted more than six months and focused on whether Intel could
use its near-monopoly in personal-computer chips as well, thus
stifling innovation.
