Jack Kemp came up with the idea of going deep into debt to finance the government and buy votes with tax cuts which created even more debt. David Stockman's book on why Reaganomics failed says it all. 'The best secret in Washington is republicans are the big spenders.' If that's an example of their "issues" god help us. I did like Paygo which helped Clinton balance the budget (made under Bush). That was one time when one of them actually got something right. But Paygo was only part of the solution. The tax increases, the birth of the Internet and the collapse of the USSR created a perfect time to do the right thing.
