3/30/2018 Contest update
It was a short market week in more ways than one. And although there were a few swings higher, over the four trading days, sellers of biotechs, especially smaller-cap, mostly ran the show.
(The week also marked the end of the first quarter and I will shortly post some quarterly summary tables.)
At the week’s close of trading, the Contest median was up 7.87% YTD (vs. up 10.99% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -0.07% YTD (vs. down -1.39% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 3.49% YTD (vs. up 4.35% YTD a week ago), with the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) up 2.32% YTD (vs. up 1.29% YTD a week ago).
Despite a considerable loss for the week, AKOFNY’s portfolio, up 45.82% YTD, held on to the Contest lead. RKRW’s portfolio, up 36.99% YTD, and SPTAD’s portfolio, up 28.44% YTD, also held on to second and third place.
At Friday's close, 48 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 48 also beating the NBI and 41 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 5.54% and median YTD loss of -2.12%, with 104, fewer than half, showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a happy Passover, Easter and, not to mention, Eater weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
