Don't know if this has previously been posted. Forbes for Jan 26 lists Nextel as one of several stocks that were "sold short against
the box" to lock in profits while deferring tax liabilities. They
say that the stock must be bought back by Jan 20, and are looking for a 15% jump on this basis. Page 104.

Also, unrelated, Merrill Lynch's strategy bulletin of Jan 6 says "Be prepared for astoundingly low interest rates in 1998", FWIW.
