According to data released Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Commerce, gross domestic product (GDP) grew at an annualized rate of 2.9 percent, up from the estimated 2.7 percent, Bloomberg Markets reported . Additionally, consumer spending — the biggest chunk of the U.S. economy — grew at a rate of 4 percent, a slight improvement on the latest 3.8 percent estimate. But overall, the economy expanded 2.3 percent in 2017 — a positive increase from the 1.5 percent growth recorded in 2016.
