That is not the way to look at it. Public schools are provided by our democracy to help the citizens.

They are not free to society, only to the student, but they serve an important function.

An educated populace makes for a much better society.

Public schools teach the truth to help everyone and are constructed and overseen by the people.

Democracy at work.

Private schools are administered by one interest group or another whether for religion, profit or ideology and are not as well regulated as public schools and do not necessarily teach what is in the best interest of society.
