The problem WMT had was two-fold. First, the CEO couldn't put together an e-commerce team that functioned even after spending billions (he had to buy companies to do it for him) and he spent a fortune on wages because his employee retention rate was close to zero. Raising wages and buying companies to do what he couldn't do helped a lot.

As a side note, WMT had the largest decline of any Dow stock since the Jan. 26 high. It dropped nearly 20% as of yesterday afternoon and is around 17.78% down as of this writing.
