Ed, is your son one of these students? Any of you students have anything to share?

Well, future young investors may be interested in a 'free' delayed quote/news server that can handle North American stocks. And can be used to technically analyze stocks.

papyrus.com

It offers decent plotting abilities.

Hi Kids: No not you Ed; Welcome to one of the better Threads on Silicon Investor. Rookies like me get to share my thoughts with the more seasoned guys like Ed, Hutch, The cheif so we can all spend our winters in Florida Like The Cheif instead of in the Cold.

I have learned much from this and other threads as another intricate part of deciding which stocks to buy, when to buy them and the reasons for doing so. Even more important is information on when to sell some or all of them as well.

This is a place where we can share our opinions. I may not necessarily agree with someone else's viewpoint on particular subjects but I respect their right to that opinion. We get to support or thoughts here also and solicit input from others in solid and sometimes meaningful discussions.

Hi Ed

Thank you for responding to my e-mail and welcoming the students to the thread today. I'm sorry for any confusion this caused. They also appreciated your comments, John.

The students were "lurking" only for today. They had completed a math unit with their teacher on the stock market and he had asked me, as a known speculator an the principal of a nearby school, to take the students on a tour of my computer browser's bookmarks in order to gain insight into the power of the internet as a research and information tool. We also talked about misinformation.

Besides the Silicon site and this thread we visited Stockwatch (both quotes and charts), Stockhouse (their Insider Report, data bank), Globefund, the 24 hour spot gold price, The Northern Miner, Globefund, and several web pages of some of the companies they had been talking about. I also demonstrated how one uses an internet trading account. We also looked at some to the newsletters that arrive via e-mail.

My hat is off to this teacher. It is sometimes difficult to convince teens that math is important and they left class today with a sense that the process of investing calls for individuals to make use of the very communications skills, math skills and knowledge of geography and sometimes history that are taught in schools. They understand that the internet is a powerful source of information and is supportive of thriving debates. Your personal greeting, Ed, and the ensuing banter made them feel involved for an hour or two.

Thank you.

Bill
