There are 2 ways to transfer shares from one brokerage firm to another. One is doing an ACAT, in which the whole account is transfered, and the other is by doing a partial transfer, where you have to specify the stocks and number of shares you want moved. This is particularly useful if you want to keep more than one brokerage account. I hope this helps.
