Joan; Thanks I never asked my broker about shorting it, but if
he says no I'l have to ask him why. There has been some issues
he said he could not short, ( couldn't get the shares is always the
excuse ) but I don't have a way to know if he's always telling
the truth. Have you ever shorted "WEBs" or CEs ?
Mostly up to now I just try for the ride up, and jump out
of the down side. I tried puts ( a lot ) on individul
issues but found the spread , commisions, etc eat into what
little you can make, and it involves much more risk than playing,
baskets. I'v looked at futures but said no way hosa, to easy
to go broke in them. Shorting via a basket does appeal to me,
I'm trying to improve my market timing, and I am getting
better at it. Waiting now on the Small guys to wip around
and hope to enter KAUFX , and re-enter OAKSX
OAKSX is closed to new investors so I kept 1 share when I made
my escape on DEC5th.
I would have came out sooner but was out to sea, and didn't see
what was happening, but I did OK in and out with OAKSX
twice now, catching more of the upside and less of the downside.
It's hitting me that some sort of basket is better than going
out on some limb as I've to often done.
I had a big winner, and a few small ones, but one big loser too,
it's not always true that winners will make up for the losers,
they got to work hard to do it. Commisions, spreads, and the
fact that a $ 50 stock that falls to $ 30 loses 40% of it's
value, and for that $ 30 one to get back to $50 it has to
gain 66%. While the Bull market make a lot of people look
good, a flat one will sure undo a lot of that, and a bear
market makes compleat fools out of thoes once wise analcyst.
I'v done a check on recomendations since July, it's alful.
