TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 15, 1998--Tri-Vision Electronics Inc. (ASE:TVL) President Najmul
Siddiqui is pleased to announce that the Company is to introduce its proprietary V-Chip product line in the
South East Asian market through a leading Malaysian telecommunications, electronics and information
technology group, Sapura Holdings Sdn. Bhd.

Tri-Vision has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with Sapura initially detailing the launch of the
V-Chip in the Malaysian market. Sapura's first task, in cooperation with Tri-Vision, will be to educate and
assist government leaders, broadcasters and community groups in Malaysia to bring V-Chip to the nation.
According to the MOU, both companies are committed to developing a formal licensing and a formal
distribution agreement for all member countries within the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN)
by mid-1998.

Based in Malaysia, the Sapura group of companies, which had annual revenues of US$387million in 1997, is
initially targeting that country's 4.2 million television households. Ultimately, Sapura projects a 20 percent target
penetration of the more than 45-million homes with television sets within ASEAN countries over the next few
years. A market survey, similar to the one conducted in the U.S. in 1997, will be undertaken by a qualified
market research organization to confirm the ASEAN target market size and other data.

Shahriman Shamsuddin, the Vice-President for Telecommunications Equipment Distribution of Sapura Group,
stated that "a great market potential exists for V-Chip Technology and related products in the ASEAN region,
which has a market potential comprising of up to 300 million inhabitants. As a parental viewing control device,
V-Chip allows parents to dictate children's viewing habits and can be seen as a sophisticated aid for the parents
in the upbringing of a child. Sapura, with the involvement of Tri-Vision, expects to market and distribute
V-Chip related products through its existing and new networks in the region with representative offices in
Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam & the Philippines. Sapura looks forward to a mutually beneficial relationship
with Tri-Vision on the V-Chip and its related technologies. 1998 is going to be a year where both organizations
benefit from the V-Chip technology".

Tri-Vision's President Najmul Siddiqui says the strong Sapura commitment is extremely important as it
demonstrates the level of international demand for the Company's unique V-Chip technology, which allows
parents to control the quality and content of television programs viewed in the home.

"The population base to be targeted by the powerful Sapura group is close to that of the North American
market. This alliance, similar to those alliances with Ingram Entertainment, ANTEC Telewire Supply and
Beamscope Canada, fits perfectly with Tri-Vision's strategy of forming such alliances to promote its technology
world-wide," Siddiqui says.

"With an established base in the technologically advanced Malaysian marketplace and a large international
presence, Sapura has the expertise and resources to successfully introduce V-Chip in the South East Asian
market," says Mr. Siddiqui.
