You'd think it would be blue states with huge opiate problems, trying to ignore Trump. But it's RED states! What's that about?

Well the opiate problem is indeed part of the problem - I also agree with you that republican thinking on drugs is pathetically wrong. Stupid is too kind of a word to use for the War on Drugs. Like Vietnam just another war that we have lost. Drug addiction is a health care issue - NOT a criminal issue (although getting the money for your addiction can make it a criminal issue). In your defense I looked up the life expectancy and saw one site saying the 10 worst states were red - and 9 of the top 10 for life expectancy were blue (Utah - of course - was the exception).

BUT, this is way too complicated of an issue to try to peg it to one cause - or one political party. It also pushes yet again people into their political ideological corners rather than working towards a solution. Yes, that problem may belong more to republicans - but your thinking here suggest that those on the left also contribute to the problem.

Best thing we can do to help our life expectancy is to encourage better living conditions - less drug dependency, better eating habits, more exercise, fewer pollutants..........less stress.
