Personaly, I can't imagine why Quantum should stay in the heads business where you can't possibly generate the economies of scale to keep up with IBM, the Japanese or even a RDRT. Can you see them trying to develop GMR on their own. God help us all! I also don't buy the argument that being in the heads business helped them transition to MR. They have never even been able to qualify their heads in their own desktop drives in any volume.
It also wouldn't break my heart to see them exit the high end of the high end business. Seems like WDC had the right idea going after the low end of the high end. After all, Quantum has been in the high end for years, has lost a fortune, continues to do so AND HAS NEVER MADE A PROFIT. Frankly, both ventures have been, and continue to be, unmitigated disasters of a very large magnitude.

Chuck,

<<You have to consider what would happen if DLT turned out to be a flash in the pan and you>>

As an insider is there anything you know that suggests this may come to pass?

Best,
