Teacher's salaries are one thing....but, the schools are also severely lacking in supplies and text books. As low as the teacher's salaries are, they will buy supplies themselves, or they'd go without. My Mom cares for her great granddaughter in Owasso, OK..... she tells me how ridiculous the situation is.

Do they know they can grow their own on the West Coast? They can also get part-time trimming jobs for $15/hr.
