Quinine is less recommended today, but is a home remedy for nocturnal leg cramps. I do take a multivitamin that seems to help. John mentioned that diuretics often included in blood pressure medicine can deplete vitamins and minerals and be a factor. This is an issue more common as people age though and many experience.

Also, drink, or actually gulp down, two glasses of water the first thing in the morning after getting up, it we're already dehydrated from not having any water overnight and it also starts up the system and helps to get the digestive and bowel system going...
