I was starting a new job on a Monday in 1978. Unfortunately, our dog died on Sunday afternoon and my wife wanted him buried. Of course you couldn’t buy a shovel on Sunday.

I was advised at the nearby Skaggs-Albertsons store that I could buy one after midnight. So, at 1201 am I was in line at Skaggs with a shovel, which had to be strange looking. By the time old Tad was buried it must have been about 0230, and the commute to Midway Road was a good hour if you left at 7.

Luckily, I didn’t have to do any real work that day, because I was worthless. Never could stand the blue laws after that.
