zylitol for my sweetener I have never used it. Reports that it can cause liver failure in dogs prevented me from trying it. Also, I have read it can cause an uproar in the digestive tract. To answer completely, I do not use any artificial sweeteners. Like Josh, I used to enjoy Coke Zero until I started reading negatives on the artificial sweeteners (almost all of them). BUT, they do not impact short or long term blood glucose levels. I am fortunate that my A1C has been controlled well by meds (5.7-5.9 over the last few years). I do greatly limit my sugar intake but enjoy a wee bit of turbinado sugar in my morning coffee. I enjoy my guilty pleasure, a Krispy Kreme donut, maybe once a month. Greatly reducing my sugar intake and taking my meds has been a good solution for me. I still eat carbs but no where near what I used to eat before diagnosis (A1C was over 13 when diagnosed). EDIT: I am now reading that my diabetes medicine can cause pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer. I take Janumet which is a pill cocktail of Januvia and metformin. Apparently the Januvia is the bad actor. But what's a fellow to do?
