am thinking less about japan of the 80s and more about saudi arabia of the 70s, and about 1929

i do not at all believe trade war equates w/ armageddon

merely very expensive and to no particular end, unless it is just between usa vs canada / mexico, as real wars are between usa vs iraq / syria

trade war between peers and near-peers is just about endurance

endurance is costly, especially for any eventual loser, or he who blinks first

i am guessing only trump can and therefore needs to blink, and blink first

jinping has little if any reason to blink, and trade war may actually help him in re-balance of economy (urban / rural, inland / coastal, export / service, costs of wages, capital and IP, etc)
