I think our US military industrial complex has indeed become socialist/communist because it has grown way larger than we need to protect our citizens and way of life. It has become an albatross that has warped foreign relations and become a means for empire and meddling on a scale unprecedented in history. Yes, even bigger than the British or Romans or Mongols. We've deformed ourselves and the world with our profligate spending on the military industrial complex. So it is no longer serving our citizens needs, but has become an ends and means unto itself. Included in the military industrial complex is all the spending we do on the FBI, NSA, CIA, Homeland Security, etc. etc. In other words, the deep state that is not elected and yet wields enormous power. Look at what the deep state is doing to Trump. They won't even let the citizens elect a President and let that President run the country anymore. Not without them attempting a soft coup and a disruptive process of reigning him in and controlling him. They basically said let's investigate Trump until we find something we can pin him with that can lead to impeachment. That is not what Democratic and Free countries do. Free citizens have the right to freedom from harassment and scurrilous, vexation, frivolous prosecution and lawsuits. And it's not just Trump. Every President quickly falls into line with the military industrial complex, once they realize they need friends to get at least part of their agenda done. Their record of selling out is dishearteningly unanimous. It's yet one more pig feeding at the trough. He says, he wants out of Syria and we get a chemical weapons attack almost immediately, and Trump's response is that Assad needs to pay a high price...meaning he's not getting us out of Syria. Coincidence? I don't believe in coincidences. The bottom line is that the discretionary portion of our $4 trillion annual budget is minuscule and not worth looking at. To control and balance our budget, there are only 3 line items that matter: Social Security, Medicare, and the Military. And those line items are untouchable, because of the bought and paid for GOP and DNC and Presidents who simply don't have enough power to take on the vested interests behind those 3 line items. So my conclusion is that we are fecked financially as a nation. No one can fix it. It's only a downward spiral now. The only question is how long can they kick the can down the road.
