That tells me that your understanding is nuanced...and you are right. Cubans who left Cuba to become Americans have not forgotten what they've lost over there and the horrors that Socialism and Communism bring. They will never forget. Unfortunately, they are getting old and dying off. Their children, the Cuban Americans born and bred right here in the US, come in two flavors, Gen X and Millenials. The Gen Xers are 80-90% Capitalist and have learned the lessons of their Cuban parents well. The Millennials are the 3rd generation Americans and they have forgotten the lessons of history. They are mostly Socialist and follow the trends. The pain that brings their parents and grand parents is substantial, I can tell you. It's almost as if a Jewish American young adult tells their grand parents who lived through the Holocaust that Fascism is a good idea. That would probably produce heart palpitations in those grand parents. Anyway, it is human nature. We take two steps forward and one step backwards. Unfortunately, it seems that we're going to have to relearn the lessons of history with respect to Socialism. It has become too popular among too many highly educated people who are paradoxically ignorant of political-economic history. That's a toxic combination, because highly educated and intelligent people can be very arrogant in their refusal to believe they are wrong. After all, how can they be wrong when they are so smart and educated? Smart, broadly educated, and yet, specifically ignorant is a toxic brew.
