Before the warrant for Cohen’s Office and Hotel would have been approved, it had to be reviewed by the Office of Enforcement Operations, led by Jennifer Hodge. Then, it would have needed approval by the Career (not political) Deputy Assistant Attorney General (DAAG) over OEO/Jennifer Hodge. The guy in that role is named Ray Hulser. Here’s what you need to know about Ray: he has spent his entire career at DOJ, most of which was in the Public Integrity Section (aka PIN) of the Criminal Division. Ray has spent his career working on super-duper sensitive criminal investigations and matters which involve public officials, judges, corruption & crime. He is discreet, well-liked, and trusted. Which adds a layer of airtight approval by a trusted long-term expert voice in the Criminal Division, before it got approved by a federal judge. Also in the know would be acting AAG John Cronan (while not Senate confirmed) had to be approved to serve as the Acting AAG by none other than the Donald J. Trump White House. In other words, Acting AAG Cronan, DAG Rosenstein (boss to Cronan) and SDNY US Attorney Geoff Berman were all suggested AND approved to be in their roles, specifically by the Trump White House. And they all said go for it, FBI.
