Probe Metals (PRB-V) has received assays of up to 20.5 grams of gold per tonne over nine metres at its Val d'Or East project, located as one would expect, just east of Val d'Or. The latest assays are from 44 holes spanning 17,600 metres of the company's continuing 85,000-metre drill program. High grades were in short supply: a two-metre interval averaging 14.8 grams per tonne and a four-metre zone averaging 11.6 grams per tonne were the only other hits topping 10 grams per tonne. Nevertheless, Dr. Palmer, president and CEO, said that Probe was well on its way to achieving a further expansion of its resource and gleaning greater confidence in its ounce count.

In February, Probe revealed a resource update for Val d'Or East, listing 9.04 million tonnes indicated at 2.35 grams per tonne and another 9.3 million tonnes inferred at 2.41 grams per tonne, for a total of 1.4 million ounces. The New Beliveau deposit, one of four deposits on the project, provided most of the ounces. The resource includes 780,000 ounces constrained within an open-pit shell and another 620,000 ounces deemed an underground resource. (The previous estimate, prepared six years ago, listed just 726,000 inferred ounces.)

Dr. Palmer, a Toronto resident, draws a hefty $330,000-per-year salary as president and CEO. He was also with the company's predecessor, Probe Mines Ltd., since 2003. (Probe Metals was a 2015 spinoff from Probe Mines, which was acquired by Goldcorp (G-T)
