The gop was very successful at turning American businesses and investors into socialists who depend on government debt

You can make that argument for some government contractors. Mostly though government is depending on the business and investors and other tax payers. Massive amounts of money flow from them to the government. They are not dependent on government debt, the government that can't get its fiscal house in order is.
