I'd put the chance of him firing Rosenstein at about 90%. All he has to do then is install someone who carries water for him. It's not like the rule of law matters to Trump or the gop. I haven't heard one of them say a word about protecting Rosenstein or anyone other than Mueller. The base won't allow them to speak freely about the rule of law.

"He can't fire his way out of his mess."

He can try. Even if both houses flip, there aren't enuf R senators to impeach him. That leaves us with a trip to the Supreme Court to find out

The President can't fire his way out of his mess:

He can't actually fire Mueller directly. He says he thinks he can but that's irrelevant. He lies about stuff all the time. He's said he thinks the President can't have a conflict of interest, that he can pardon himself, he says he believes he won the popular vote, he says his inauguration (and many other speeches since) have been the biggest ever in terms of audience. He's a FOS LIAR and him saying he believes something is meaningless. He doesn't even really believe most of the crap he says.

He can fire Sessions, but that's not going to solve his problem. He'd need to get another AG who would have to be confirmed ... that goes even for someone like Pruitt. So he couldn't replace him instantly. Furthermore, he might have a problem getting anyone to take the job.

He already can't hire a new lead Russia lawyer. He asked DiGenova, a BSer from Fox News, to replace Dowd and DiGenova begged off with a lame bogus excuse. Despite his verbal support, DiGenova isn't stupid enough to work for the Spoiled Child President. What if he fires Sessions and makes clear to the potential replacements he expects them to cover his guilty ass? Most people would refuse. Especially given his very visible record. The Spoiled Child President demands personal loyalty above all to the point of legal endangerment, but he gives no loyalty. He turns on his people and attacks them in public.

He can fire Rosenstein, but that would work for him only if there's an underling who'd agree to obstruct justice for the President. Again, I doubt there are many such people in the Justice Dept. What if he fires Rosenstein and the next person in line and the next and he still can't find a Deputy AG to fire Mueller?

At this point, EVERYONE KNOWS the President is obstructing justice and demanding his people do it too, the legal consequences for them be damned. He wants people who'll put their head in a noose for him.

Even if he could fire enough people to get rid of Mueller, that doesn't save him. The investigation will continue one way or another. The FBI and Justice Dept is not going to obstruct a President they know is scoundrel. The guilty pleas for Papadopoulos, Flynn, Gates won't go away. The sworn statements they've no doubt given to get lower sentences and charges won't go away. The indictments of 16 others won't go away. All the evidence Mueller has compiled, most of which isn't publicly known, will not go away. Sooner or later, the President will have to face the music.
