I'm not so sure about that. People with good incomes, say union jobs, started featherbedding, suboptimizing, got entrenched and fat and lazy and spoiled, to at least some extent. It could be that when the jobs started to dwindle, the roots of the pathologies were already there so they didn't have the internal wherewithal to respond to their situation as well as they once might have.

You really can't depend on Murray's analysis of the data he presents. He has his own agenda.
