Sometimes, political motivations are a problem and need to be brought into focus. But the cynical view that Republicans want less of a country than Democrats do, want to harm children or the elderly, that all [white] southerners are racist idiots, or whatever, is really a severely tainted view of the people who make up the country. And those views are wrought of your own ignorance. What you -- and many other on the Left -- do not understand is that most Americans want the same basic things. The ability to raise their families in good health, safety and security, provide them with the best possible education, get an occasional family vacation or weekend boating trip, and to work hard, accumulate wealth we can live comfortably on and hopefully, one day, pass on to our children. Some are very serious about their religion. There are disagreements over how to accomplish this, but these are basic the things people value in their lives. And some believe Republicans are best way to get there while others believe Democrats are. Many thing all politicians are scourges. Your arguments might be more compelling if you understood that neither Democrats nor Republicans are the source of all evil. Democrats do show more compassion for society and pursue equality, but Republicans do have far better understanding of the hurdles that have to be overcome and why equality is not a good thing. We really need to have both, else, we end up with a mess like the ACA -- and it is a mess and has done great damage to our health care delivery systems and the very people you wanted to help are instead harmed. You didn't mean for it to come out that way, I don't say you are evil for having supported it, but it is evident that it has resulted is serious misallocations of resources and far higher costs (Krugman's idiotic column today, notwithstanding). It is the process of negotiating between the parties that helps to insure reasonableness the law. Not perfection mind you -- nothing can do that. But any low made solely by Democrats or Republicans is likely to be severely flawed because, contrary to the beliefs of some, NO ONE is 100% right, all of the time. These disagreements have to be worked out ahead of time to avoid seriously adverse outcomes like we've seen with ACA.
