You know ,why don't you try to understand things instead of just playing a game of gotcha? That's rich coming from you Koan. I'm posting based on an understanding of a complex reality. Your frequently post to the effect that Republicans and conservatives are evil and all good from Democrats and liberals. at the time the Democratic party had conservative politicians and they voted against it. And they also had non-conservative politicians who voted against it. Politicians who were anti-war, for big government social spending, a history of attacking conservatives, etc.
