Yes, liberals have supported all civil rights movements like gay marriage and the equal rights amendment, both of which were opposed by conservatives, among other progressive things, in fact pretty much all progressive things, for all of history.

Liberals are perfectly defined in the dictionary definition, as are conservatives.

When did people looking back have more perception than people looking forward?

Try and think of one progressive thing in the last century where liberals got it wrong and the conservatives got it right. One thing.

And forget this dem pub party, thing. Until recently both parties had liberals and conservatives.

Dems still have a few conservatives, but pubs have no liberals.
