There was cold war bubble, but it has burst a long time ago. The result of it were cushy jobs in defense sector (that's where these Russian Engineers were employed). The US had similar jobs, like NASA, army, NAVY, Pentagon. Good paying jobs, and to a degree still available. Crypto stuff is generally NSA business. Again, coming back to crisis, how USA dealt with it vs how Iceland did. Iceland will be just fine. USA will have a series of crises and bailouts until a crisis too big to bailouts, a reset, and a 50 year recession a la Japan that follows.
