$4 trillion is a fairly small amount of money in this context. The shortfall for entitlements is in the low hundreds of trillions of dollars range.

Also estimates of the costs of the war include interest (although not forever usually with something like an 10 year time horizon)

God Tim, what do you want? People to work until they day they die and to hell with giving medical care to anyone. Let them die and feed them all to the rats. We are the richest country on earth - and one of the stingiest when it comes to social programs. The idea that everyone else can do it and we can't is just living inside an ideological bubble and ignoring facts.
