the APPLE effect @VZ: tablets and phones subs decline, wearables are up. VZConnect is new darling. Back in 2007 bigger viewing phone screens were the 'killer app'. Now, not so much. Now it's a smarter hands-free device with Concierge service, or a robotic device that performs some maintenance wirelessly - like your Roomba vacuum cleaner that empties itself or answers the door for FEDEX or AMAZON. Industrial applications in IIoT are just emerging on the back of shorter replacement cycle hi-capex devices like tractor/trucking and taxis which has been trickling down to consumer autos. The long replacement cycle hi-capex items like major appliances and housing has been slower to adopt due to tech uncertainties. Industry has had a stable plant with no motive to change. Thus it has a hi-OPEX scenario to fix first: lowering personnel cost via wireless sensors in the field. <THAT is the market VZConnect wants to win.
